This is useful for account verification. Otherwise you cannot apply for a New Zealand state driver license unless you become a resident of New Zealand territory. To get real driving license, you have to follow steps indicated on official website nzta.govt.nz , under section driver licenses. First of all, for a driver licence application, you have to present: your New Zealand driver licence (which can be current or expired up to two years) or your current New Zealand passport. Then you have to pass theory tests (theory tests are required to get a learner licence, requalify your licence, and sometimes when converting an overseas driver licence to a New Zealand licence) and practical driving tests.
The driver licence has your: photo, surname, first names, date of birth, driver licence number (this number remains the same each time a new card is issued), version number (this number changes each time a new card is issued), and address, if you chose to have that printed on your licence. It will also show ‘DONOR’ if you wish to be a potential organ donor.
The driver licence shows the vehicles you’re licensed to drive: if ‘L’ appears next to a class, you have a learner licence; if ‘R’ appears next to a class, you have a restricted licence.
The green licence means the driver is fully qualified in at least one class of licence. The yellow licence means the restricted phase for one or more class of licence.
